From Common-Sense Thinking to Cultural-Scientific Thinking and Back
Abstract
Schutz advances beyond Husserl regarding cultural science and common-sense thinking. The cultural sciences are the historical as well as social sciences. The contrast is between theoretical and practical attitudes focused on scientific problems and practical purposes respectively. Ideal constructs occur on both levels. Cultural scientific constructs are about common sense constructs. Postulates of adequacy and subjective interpretation are described. Finally, an advance beyond Schutz is ventured whereby cultural science is a major source of constructs in common sense thinking.
